Today I went to a Celebration of our beloved Cymbeline's life. When I first entered the house, i was overwhelmed with the amount of people there.
I took off my shoes and scooted myself into the hallway, out of the way of incoming guests, and saw a room just around the corner form the front door. In this room was a man organizing some papers on a bed. My grandma and I entered and asked if he was Cymbeline's father. He said yes, and I began to talk to him.
I said, "Hi, my name is Casey and I am here representing the Iammatthewian Project, a project that your daughter participated in with me, we were both voice actors."
He nodded his head in deep interest, knowing very little about what his daughter was up to. Apparently he knew about the project, but didnt know what it was all about or how many people were involved. I told him, "Cymbeline was a dear dear friend of mine, her art was amazing, i loved drawing with her! We got to talk over the phone about 4 or 5 times and every time we did we just had the greatest time. We'd talk about scripts and comic books...I'm really here to say that I, and over 2,000 others, loved Cym very very much, and that we are all glad to have met her." Her dad then reached over to the bed and picked up a small sketchbook, "Here, I want you to have this. It was one of Cym's sketchbooks, we took out the drawings she did do but there are plenty of blank pages left." He also gave me a photo of her and a photo of one of her drawings. I am so honoured to have been given these, I will cherish this sketchbook for life. I have her photo hung up on my mirror too. Right beside the IAMP pamphlet for anime north...
I told him more and more about her involvement with the project, and he was brought to tears. He said he was extremely excited to see the tribute video and had no idea that such a huge amount of people cared about her. I said, "The tribute will include messages, pictures, and even voice clips that Cymbeline did." So yea, as soon as the tribute is done I will be going to their house to give it to them, and maybe even watch it with them.
Anywho, as i walked around the house i saw posters hung up in the sun room. Posters with drawings and photos of Cym. I took a closer look at one of the posters showcasing her art and stumbled across a picture that she drew for me not too long ago! I was extremely touched and even teared up. I then started chatting with her other family members (mom, and grandma) and...the odd thing was, when i introduced myself and told them how I met Cym (from the project) They both new exactly who I was! They said, "Ohh!! You're that girl! Cym would always talk about you, her little friend in a project she was in. I remember when you two would talk on the phone every now and then!"
Hearing that almost made me burst into tears.
After all that i went into the living room to sit down and watch a slideshow made by one of her friends, it was lovely. Cym looked so happy in all of them, she was such a tiny little girl, even though she was 17 years old! The dad then made a final announcement saying how happy he was about how many people came and shared stories.
He also said, "As you may or may not know, today is the Equinox, where all the nights now become longer. We thought it'd be fitting to have the celebration on this day, so we could send Cym off on a long beautiful night."
I will be visiting her family soon to show them the tribute video, I will be sure to tell you all about their reactions to it.
P.S. Ina can you maybe make this topic a featured topic? I'd like everyone to read this :)
