Voice Actors FAQ
1. How do I become a voice actor for The iammatthewian Project?
See the Audition FAQ in the Project Announcements section.
This is a policy enacted from day one. All VAs, as much as possible, will have an understudy. Priority is for main characters. Having an understudy to cover your back in times of an emergency is a privilege. Understudies are unsung heroes that are very very very precious commodities in any production. Upon sending a script, like artists, VAs must let the director know ASAP if you can make it for the deadline or not. Be kind to your understudies... they also deserve some time to arrange their RL schedules to accomodate last minute recordings.
The director also has the right to make an executive decision to mobilize the understudy if she feels that the main VA is not pulling his/her weight. The directer also have the right to chose one voice actor over another on a specific piece if she feels that their voice will suit this character better than the other for a piece. (i.e. Patatevitale's higher pitch woulds suit a young Quebec better than atomictomatoofdoom, etc.)
3. When are voice clips due?
Voice clip deadlines will be given when the scripts are sent out. They are normally 2 months before the tentative release date.
4. I'm a bit ill and my throat is a bit sore, but I think I can still record to meet the deadline. Is that okay?
No! That is NOT okay. You must NOT, in any circumstance, try to record ANYTHING if you are ill and/or have a sore throat. Not only will you send sub-par quality voice clips, but you will also risk the danger of straining/injuring/tearing/
The director will give you feedback ASAP after you submit your voice clip. The earlier you submit your clip, the more opportunities you will have with the director to help you. If you submit your voice clips close to the deadline like everybody else, the director will likely not have time to polish your clip. The director is also available for 1:1 coaching either by Skype or by e-mail, but you MUST send your piece early. The director would normally contact you if she feels that a redub is needed and will arrange a 1:1 session over Skype if need to. But if it is just a personal initiative, you have to contact the director to arrange a 1:1 session.
